Diversity. Defined as different or various. I love it. It gives me a huge smile on my face and warms my heart when I see a couple in public of two different races, or when you see someone speaking another language (different of their own) or just an array of bright colors together, like a sunset, it illuminates my soul. I love the acceptance it brings. It gives me a sense of accomplishment in society, because in the past it wasn't nearly accepted to mix colors in anything. I think when children are exposed to two different cultures, it is beautiful. Although it can bring some controversy to tweek with tradition, what is wrong with having two traditions? Or at least trying it out and compare and contrast which you like better? The Easter bunny? Hannukah? Santa Claus? Los Reyes? El dia de los Muertos? Chinese New Year? Yom Kippur? Oktoberfest? Mardi Gras? Personally, I was raised with very little tradition in regards to holidays, religion, etc (not my parents fault, just the American way), in comparison to my boyfriend and his family. And personally, I love their traditions a lot more.
For example, one new tradition I absolutely loved and hope to continue through the years was on New Years Eve, we went to church before midnight and we sat there in complete silence on our knees for however long we needed praying, forgiving, confessing, and reflecting.
Why be scared to learn something new? What harm can it do you? Some of the most thrilling and unforgettable moments of my life have been where I have immersed myself to do something new and exciting and think out of the box. I challenge you to emerge yourself and not be closed minded, only then can you share an opinion and educate others.
